When this kitchen drain problem occurs
Troubleshoot a double-basin sink when one or both sides drain poorly or back up. The cause can depend on where the restriction sits, the type of sink and disposal setup, and whether other fixtures are affected.
Details that can help
- Whether the sink drains slowly or does not drain at all.
- Whether one basin or both basins are affected.
- Whether the disposal makes unusual sounds or stops working.
- Whether the clog returns after a temporary clearing.
What to do next
Stop using the sink if water is rising or backing up. Avoid mixing drain-cleaning products. Explain what you observe and any steps already attempted when contacting a service provider.
